The Happiness Tree is a beautifully told and stunningly illustrated story of a little girl who, with the help of a special creature, breaks a wicked witch’s spell and brings happiness back to the world.

It is easy to envision a world overrun with waste and litter, oceans teaming with plastic, skies filled with smog and smoke and putrid rivers permeated with pollution. In this story a terrible witch uses the detritus and pollution as ingredients and mixes them together, casting a hideous spell to create a potion so poisonous she destroys all the happiness in the world.

But do not fear, all is not lost! The spell is broken when an adventurous young girl meets a new friend who leads her to a magical tree. Together they rediscover happiness and set it free once again, breaking the evil spell and bringing smiles to the faces of people all across the world.

This timely story particularly resonates with the children of today, who are more aware of the impact we are having on our planet than any previous generation. Sadly, this story is not far from reality as it echoes the real-life impact of pollution for many people around the world and the effects on their declining well-being.

The story encourages children and adults to explore the natural world, to venture into the outdoors in search of those special trees and mesmeric places that fill our hearts and souls with joy and experience the pleasure and happiness that comes from being immersed in the wonder of nature.

The Author Says, “When we encourage children into the outdoors through positive, memorable and personal experiences, we lay the foundations for a generation of children to build an emotional bond with nature and protect her and all her beauty well into the next generation and beyond.

The Happiness Tree helps us understand how connecting with nature is an essential ingredient in the pursuit of health and well-being.  Weaving together magic, imagination, nature crafts and connection, this is a story that touches the heart of everybody from the very young to the very old.”

This is a fantastic book with some astounding illustrations. The images of the magical willow tree and the spectacular glitter worm in particular really bring the story to life for everyone.

The story itself does what all great children’s literature should – it takes a simple idea then twists it ever so slightly to alight the imagination of the reader. It made me smile from start to finish.

    Truly brilliant.

I love this book; my students love this book. They’ve collected buckets of acorns and still play with their broomstick. There is now an identified “Happiness Tree” in our play yard and the kids intentionally attend to it. I’m SO excited to help keep the magic alive!

I was given a signed copy of this book as a present for my two girls Halle and Nell and I instantly loved it just from the beautiful cover picture.
It is a magical read that brought me to tears, such a lovely and inspiring story. My 15 month old never sits still for a story but she did for this one, she loved the pictures and the interaction between us was pure joy!
It is now our top bedtime story 🙂

A stunningly written and illustrated book. Danny has done a spellbinding job of weaving magic, moral, myth and wonder into something so simple…story telling and nature. A triumph in this digital age and a great way to help reconnect ourselves as well as our children. I have two copies by accident, one for my boys (aged 3 & 2) and the second will be kindly donated to my children’s nursery down here in Dorset, thanks to the kind compliments of the publishing company. Well done, look forward to the next and to hearing how many other people it inspires in years to come.
